Cooling towers of this series consist of:
- Structure and cladding
- Water distribution system
- Filling
- Drift eliminator
- Mechanical equipment
Structure and claddingThe structure is composed of several panels made of steel profiles, being hot-dip galvanized after construction or stainless steel. For the erection of the tower, the structural panels are bolted together.
The upper part of the tower consist of a hot dip galvanized steel deck. An inspection trap and an internal ladder, (one by each cell) in order to allow the access to the interior of the tower are included, as well as a handrail.
This deck is anchored on a platform, as well as the mechanical equipment and the fan stack (diffuser).
To reach this upper part, a ladder from the floor is available. All these elements are manufactured in steel, except the fan stack which is manufactured in FRP.
The cladding of the tower consists of FRP sheets.
At the air intake in the lower part of the tower, optionally, several louvers are placed with the double object of conducting air inlet and avoiding splash out of the water.
Water distribution systemIt is composed of a main channel made of hot dip galvanized steel or stainless steel, with secondary channels in FRP or plastic pipes. In both cases, these secondary channels incorporate the gravity nozzles, and also the impingement plates which provide a perfect water distribution and an easy maintenance.
FillingThese cooling towers can incorporate different filling types according to water quality features.
LAMINAR or FILM: It is composed by plastic panels, 24 mm minimum flute and high efficiency.
SEMI-SPLASH: It is composed by hollow cylinders vertically installed, which are an ideal solution for those cases in which the content of suspended solids is high.
SPLASH: This consist of L-shaped plastic splash bars placed horizontally and supported by vertical stainless steel meshes, allowing large passages for water and air, thus avoiding the possibility of clogging. It is recommended for those cases in which the content of suspended solids is extremely high.
Drift eliminatorHighly efficient, it reduces considerably the carryover of droplets.
Mechanical equipmentThis equipment is composed of:
- Fan
- Gear reducer
- Driving shaft
- Motor
FanHigh efficiency axial fans, statically and dynamically balanced, adjustable blade pitch at standstill.
In places where a reduced noise level is requested, quiet operating fans are available.
Gear reducerUsually of spiral-bevel type, these reducers are specially designed for use in cooling towers taking into account the static and dynamic effects and, on the other side, the removal of heat in a nearly saturated atmosphere at high temperatures.
On selection a wide service factor according to AGMA (American Gear Manufacturers Association) standard, is considered.
Driving shaftBetween the motor and the gear reducer power is transmitted by means of a floating shaft with flexible discs coupling at both ends.
MotorIn this series, totally enclosed and self-ventilated motors are installed at the upper deck out of the air current. Usually ratings are over dimensioned by 10% to 20% in order to leave a wide safety margin.
Sometimes two speed motors are provided, thus giving the possibility of saving energy when the cooling tower is working a reduced duty. It is possible to study cases for the installation of geared motors, speed variators, etc.
